Control

The control page is the default home page of the SmoothWall system. It contains external connectivity controls and a customisable number of summary reports. By default, the Services and Routing reports are displayed - this can be customised using the Information | settings configuration page.

Two types of user may login to the SmoothWall GUI:

• Admin (admin) - The admin user has access to all configuration pages.
• Operator (operator) - The operator user is only able to shutdown or reboot the system. This user is disabled by default, it can be enabled using the Preferences | passwords configuration page.

It may be possible to add more users to the SmoothWall system, if supported by other installed modules. For details about other users that can be added to the system, see the Preferences | passwords configuration page.

If an external connection has been successfully configured and is currently used as the external connection method, connection buttons will be displayed towards the top of this configuration page. To connect, click the Connect button. To disconnect, click the Disconnect button.

When a connection is successful made, a notification beep will emit from the system's internal speaker. When the connection is severed, the speaker will beep twice. The status of the external connection is also displayed, which can be Idle, Connection is pending or Connected. If the external connection is operating in dial on demand mode, the current dial on demand status is shown. Clicking the Refresh button will check and display the current status.

Use the Connection profile drop-down menu to choose the profile to use for the connection. Changing the profile requires the operator or admin password to be entered. Note - the profile cannot be changed whilst the status is Connected, or when a connection is pending.

If there are uninstalled system updates available, and the report has been selected to appear on this page, a message will be displayed.
