This is a simple traffic management scheme that should serve the needs of many people.
There are also four built-in rules that come as standard with this scheme and are not
modifyable by the user.
1. Traffic between local systems and the SmoothWall is allowed to run
at nearly full ethernet speed.
Traffic between internal systems on different
networks being routed through the SmoothWall is also allowed to run at high
speed. It is only traffic to/from the outside world that is managed.
2. ssh port 222 and https port 441 to the SmoothWall is always given
priority and a small guaranteed bandwidth.
This is so that the system can be remote administered no matter how busy it gets.
3. Traffic to and from the web cache in the SmoothWall is put in its own webcache category.
4. Packets of between 1 and 100 bytes (i.e. small packets) are given high priority but limited to 10% of bandwidth.
This only happens if those packets have not already been classified in some other way.
